FAMILY BASED GREEN CARD

1. Immediate relative of US Citizen
* Spouse of US Citizens
* Children of US Citizen (unmarried and under the age of 21 years)
* Parents of US Citizens (US citizen has to be at least 21 years of age)

The US Citizen can petitioned for the above listed individual to become permanent resident.

There is no numerical limitation, therefore those individual have priority to become permanent resident.

2. Other close family member of US Citizens
* Unmarried sons and daughters of US Citizens
* Married sons and daughters of US Citizens
* Brothers and sisters of US Citizens

The US Citizen can petitioned for the above listed individual to become permanent resident. However, such aliens are subject to a numerical-limited number of immigrant visa available to them each year. Since only a limited number of visas are available every year, Congress has divided these groups into "preference" categories, ranking them in the order in which they are preferred for immigration. The higher the preference, the more quickly a visa will be granted.
