US Citizen * Spouse of US Citizens * Children of US Citizen (unmarried and under the age of 21 years) * Parents of US Citizens (US citizen has to be at least 21 years of age) The US Citizen can petitioned for the above listed individual to become permanent resident. 2. Other close family member
of US Citizens The US Citizen can petitioned for the above listed individual to become permanent resident. However, such aliens are subject to a numerical-limited number of immigrant visa available to them each year. Since only a limited number of visas are available every year, Congress has divided these groups into "preference" categories, ranking them in the order in which they are preferred for immigration.
